In the meantime I called up Margo. Decided to keep things light and not mention I was her mother. Made something up about her needing to “save the galaxy” or whatever. AND SHE BOUGHT IT! Pathetic, amiright? I continue to amaze myself. Her mother must be an idiot cuz the apple doesn’t usually fall too far from the picnic if you know what I’m sayin. I think I’m gonna go practice some magic spells like Harry P… Peace
Mother of the Year
As a white middle-aged American woman who loves complaining to managers, I am used to doing whatever it takes to get what I want. I abandoned my daughter on Earth when she was young. Once I realized I was a mother, I was like nah I’m good so I dipped out of that wack planet. I mean the economy was rough anyway and Thanos just became president of the US, so can you blame me? ANYWAYS, I heard recently from good ol’ Thanos that my daughter Margo is some sort of superhero…? So I sent my boyfriend to go pick her up. I could use her powers to help me score some free shit at Panera. You know what I’m talking about.

It’s finally Chuck’s big game, and I’m so excited to watch him play. I got my hair styled to look extra nice before heading over to the high school. As I am driving, I can’t help but notice a weird pulling in my stomach. Is this guilt? No, of course not… well, maybe. Look, I know what I did was (slightly) wrong, but I had the best intentions. I was just looking out for my boy—any mother would have done the exact same thing if they had the means to.
I quickly dismiss it and squint my eyes as I find a place to park. So many cars are already here, but there can’t be that many people who showed up to watch tonight, right? The pulling feeling soon returns in my core, and I bite my tongue as I beat another mom driving a minivan to claim a spot. It takes me a few seconds to realize that my knuckles are white from clutching the wheel so hard. Calm down, Karen. Take a deep breath.
I make my way to the gymnasium where I hear music blasting and conversations murmuring. And just as I feared, the gym is absolutely packed. Nearly everyone in town came out to watch the game. Normally, I’d be ecstatic about so many people coming to watch Chuck play, but my reputation will be tarnished if they all knew what I did. Maybe they won’t even notice, I try to reassure myself.
With buckled knees and my heartbeat pounding in my ears, I sit by the aisle a couple rows from the court. I remind myself that I’m his mother and cheerleader for life—so, let’s put on a show and get this thing over with.
The phone call
Margo had a terrible childhood and hated it and was reminded everyday about how shitty it was, she never knew her birth mother and Margo’s always been like super sad about it. One day she receives a phone call and was told that she couldn’t tell anyone about it because it was top secret. Once Margo confirmed that she wouldn’t tell a soul about it they had put her on hold for what seemed like an eternity.
My Plan
The golden sword is always something I have wanted. I have been planning for years to get it. It is the one item I have struggled to get. Can you imagine the power I would have? I would be able to rule the land. There is always someone who is trying to go for the Golden sword. Someone is always getting in my way. I was so sure that I would be able to get it. I was so sure no one would stop me.
Part Four: Steven’s Redemption
It wasn’t shortly after that I had my back turned to Gertrude and Jacky Jane and realized they were recovering and shouting insults at me. I whipped around and faced them. It was truly pitiful to hear them say these things. I felt a pang of hurt in my heart, but once I saw Gertrude’s eyes soften I knew that she didn’t believe the things that were being said about me. I had a feeling that she was just truly misunderstood. After that, Jacky Jane realized she was outnumbered between me, Gertrude, and the crowd that was building at the bottom of the hill. Jacky Jane ran off without a slight sense of remorse. On the other hand, Gertrude stayed by my side and we fell in love. We announced to the townspeople that this would never happen again because we would chase the outlaws of the cities as a couple to protect society. Happily ever after, we joined the townspeople in celebration.
Part Three: Steven and the Throw down
At this point, no matter how hard I tried, they continued to fight brutally. I was shocked by their brutality. I actually saw a streak of something moving in the direction of the sword and realized it was Gertrude! Then Jack Jane ran after at the same astonishing speed. I tried my best to keep up to break up the fight, but I was no match to them. I needed to use my smarts and not my muscles. There was always a second option! I surveyed the area and found a small stone brick laying next to a tree. I picked it up and with all my might, threw it in the direction of Gertrude and Jacky Jane. To my surprise, it caused Gertrude to fall to the ground, and Jacky Jane following shortly after. Moments later in the distance, I heard some faint cheering and saw a couple dozen villagers approaching the scene cheering and shouting for my victory. They had seen my honest work to get the sword back!
Part Two: Hero Steven
When I first approached a fighting battle between Gertrude and Jacky Jane, it was quite shocking. I couldn’t believe the violence and ruthlessness I was witnessing. I was tempted to leave them since it would be easier to focus my attention on getting the sword, but my family raised it better than that. I had to save them from themselves. They might even become friends if I showed them how similar they are. I tried my best at peacemaking, but it was a lot harder than instructed. At first, they were shouting ugly insults at each other the next, at each other’s throats. My first step was to address the conflict which turned out to be the sword! I was after the sword too, which made it all the more complicated. I had a moral duty to resolve this though, I couldn’t pick and choose.
Part One: Steven’s Mission
In my family lineage, the sword has been a sort of a family crest for us. So that is why, when certain other people of the village were rumored to go after it, it was my duty to return the legacy of the sword to its rightful place. Doing so wouldn’t be easy, but after all—I had my entire life to prepare!
